I myself have a modest collection of LP’s of which the ones I hold dearest belong/belonged (they are well and truly mine now) to my Dad. And aye theres the rub; what will I have to hand down to my son? A USB pen smaller than a 2 pence coin full of below par quality MP3’s – most of which of questionable origin eg. not from a CD or a HMV shelf. The feeling of listening to something recorded in 1983, bought in 1983 that is still here is just warming and inspiring. It is innately human to want to hold things, get to grips with it and have something there that lasts regardless of its degrading. The bigger picture is more disturbing – I direct you to the dreaded ‘Play All’ button on Netflix – but as far as the Vinyl issue I do love a nice big piece of art wrapped around my music, old or new.
